Our C wall box (WB98/1) came from the widow of a local postman. It had sat in their garden painted white and under a hedge, which turned it green. However, after bead blasting, it came up really well and the previous owner was impressed by it. It is now due for a re-paint.The F wall box (WB101) is from a sub-post office and opens at the rear. Like the D and E boxes, it has no collection plate holder, as the collection times would be displayed in the post office window. The GR1935 Pattern Lamp Letter Box (LB211) came right at the end of the reign. It is made entirely of cast iron, the last lamp box design to be so constructed. The eliptical roof of these very attractive boxes gives them the name 'Waggon Top' boxes. The design was perpetuated in to the George VI reign (LB212) and here you can see both for comparison. These four boxes are all by different foundries from this long reign. The rounded top leads to this type being know has 'Hovis' boxes, after the famous loaves of bread. The boxes in this selection are: LB206 A.Handyside with long door & small crown LB210W T Allen - short door LB209/2 Derby Castings - short door LB207 A.Handyside with no crown & long door We also have an LB208, W T Allen long door which is shown on the previous page. The extreme right-hand box is still attached to the 'hoops' which secured these boxes to telegraph poles. WB 99/2 The large D size wall box with rear opening door as deployed in a large Post Office. These are uncommon and this is the only D type wall box we have. WB 103/3 W T Allen large cipher B wall box. Most of our GvR boxes are Type E with rear doors so this makes a change. This has been fitted with plate from Pentre Du in Wales. WB 103/1 is the B type wall box by A Handyside of Derby. We already had an E type of this manufacturere so it is nice to have a B as well. The plate is Norris Hill, Southampton. The last of the 1931-35 wall boxes that we needed for our collection was this rare Derby Castings B size wall box. It finally emerged in the Manchester area towards the end of 2011. Derby Castings only made boxes for one year - 1932. The collection plate 'Heartsease TSO' is from Norwich. Within Australia - smaller items
This is relatively inexpensive & a very cost effective way of purchasing items without the hassle of driving to collect them yourself, especially if you are interstate. I recommend using Fastway couriers as they are door to door & up to 20kg per box. As a rough guide prices are as follows-
Victoria: Melbourne down to Mornington, Kyneton to Echuca, Beechworth to Wagga Wagga $15, west of Apollo bay but south of Hamilton $20, Rest of state $25
NSW: South as far as Sydney $19, North to Brisbane $25, rest of State up to $40.
Queensland: Up to Brisbane $25, North to Cairns $30, Cairns $40
Perth: form $30 but will not cover around the state. An individual quote will be required.
Tasmania: $25
All other States $60+
Some delivery areas, especially country & if it is oversize this cost can be greater, so to be sure of exact cost, please ask me to get a quote.
I will use Australia post for the smaller & lighter items where their costs are lower than Fastway. Be aware that postage for heavier items is a lot more expensive so if you live at the opposite ends of Australia from Victoria, postage will be expensive so you may want me to give you a rough quote before considering to bid on a an item.
Within Australia - Furniture
For items to be sent interstate as a rough guide, for Canberra, Sydney & up to Brisbane, costs are from $180 to $265 per item & $100 per additional item, within city limits. Extra charges apply if north of Brisbane or west of Sydney. Perth is $300, Adelaide $250. Country areas are too hard to generalize & will need an individual calculation. Please ask for a quote beforehand to confirm.
International
I usually use Australia Post & costs vary considerably between countries, method of delivery & size & weight of items. Small items packed in bubble wrap bags are very inexpensive & will cost between $10-30. Parcels are more expensive but cost less if you require standard airfare that takes between at least 7 days with no extra frills inc no tracking. To best find out costs please visit Australia post at http://auspost.com.au/apps/postage-calculator.html. This is a postage calculator where you can accurately see your options & determine for yourself how much you have to pay. For fragile items such as ceramics & glass, they may need double packing & this will add extra to the weight. To find the weight of the item please contact me & I will let you know. I recommend using Express Post International as it will be given a tracking number which is useful in case of loss or delays.
Packing & handling costs
For small items such as bubble wrap envelopes, we charge $16.50
For parcels we charge $22 per box. Items that are exceptionally large or fragile that need specialist off-site services will be charged accordingly.
Please Note:
To export ivory & other restricted items from Australia, you will require an export permit. This will involve having an independent appraisal of the item to verify it is pre CITES & an application for a permit will need to be completed. We will only export these items with the appropriate permits in place. This can be a slow process as well as time consuming filling out forms etc. We will apply a charge for our time to expedite this process so we suggest that it will only be worth considering the higher value items. The export of ivory to the USA is banned so am unable to ship under any circumstances. Also liquor is not allowed for import to the USA.
